Why is the airport closing?

The Beaver Island Airport will be temporarily closed for an estimated 23 days this spring to complete a runway rehabilitation project led by the Beaver Island Airport Commission. This work is an important investment in maintaining safe and reliable air service to the island.

Why is the airport fully closing instead of staying partially open?

Completing the project in a single phase allows the work to be finished more efficiently and reliably. This approach helps ensure the airport is fully operational ahead of the busy summer season.

When will flights resume?

Flights are currently scheduled to resume on June 19th. We are actively monitoring the project timeline and will communicate any updates as soon as possible if that date changes.

Can I book flights now?

Yes. We are currently accepting bookings for travel beginning June 19th and encourage customers to secure summer travel plans early due to expected high demand.

What if I already have a flight booked during the closure?

Our team will be reaching out directly to assist with rebooking or other travel options.

What transportation options are available during the closure?

Ferry service through the Beaver Island Ferry Company will continue to operate during this time. Additional transportation options may also be available. For more information, customers are encouraged to visit the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce website.

Will parking still be available?

During the closure period, parking will be limited to customers with 6-month or annual parking passes.
